about

Eddie Mulder's latest album, entitled 'To The Centre', is a captivating journey through the realms of musical expression. It is also a passage to the centre of the mind, soul and heart, which I'm sure everyone travels many times during their lives. As the title suggests, the album seems to be a personal record of a tour full of experiences, while at the same time being a musical portrait, the essence of which is Mulder's distinctive style and artistry.

The tracklist of 'To The Centre' is a perfect example of the Dutch artist's versatility as a musician and arranger. From calm and nostalgic melodies to rhythmic and at times galloping guitar riffs, each track is a separate but thoughtful chapter in a musical novel. Mulder effortlessly blends different styles and ideas to create material that keeps the listener hooked from start to finish. Listening to the thirteen compositions, there is only one supplemented by a vocal track ('Fairytale'), but I don't take this as a complaint. Sometimes the music itself tells more than the words, while allowing the imagination to flow into uncharted territory, and this is exactly the case here. The words are superfluous.
One of the most striking aspects of 'To The Centre' is its emotional depth. Mulder weaves a sonic narrative through his compositions, inviting the listener on an uplifting journey, but also creating space for his own interpretations. Isn't that what we expect from music?
A few words about the album's production. It deserves a round of applause, providing a rich and wholesome soundscape. The balance between instruments is precise and well-defined, allowing each element to shine with its own brilliance while not overwhelming those temporarily hidden in the shadows.
All in all, Mulder's latest release is a musical endeavour that highlights his exceptional talent, both as an instrumentalist and as a mature composer. After the hugely successful 'Signature', fans' expectations have risen and I can safely say that by listening to 'To The Centre', they will be fulfilled.
This is a very well planned and executed album that is a pleasure to listen to.
